Modification of the affiliation field

Hello,

Since december, it seems that for some publishers, there is a modification in the way to provide the author affiliation. Exemple :

ex : DOI 10.1093/icesjms/fsae184

        "affiliation": [{
            "name": "Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) , 00153 Rome ,",
            "place": ["Italy"]
        }]

The country is now available in a new place field so the “name” field is not completed. It as to be combined with the place field.

Is that an error ? It’s sounds strange to me to cut a part of the “name” field. Personnaly, I would have add the new “place” field with the country but I would not have deleted it from the “name” field with now looks strange with the comma at the end.

Thanks,
Fred

Hi @fmerceur ,

Thanks for your message.

For DOI 10.1093/icesjms/fsae184, this is how the metadata was registered with us, it’s not a conversion error from XML to JSON, as you can see from the XML that was registered here:

https://0-doi-crossref-org.libus.csd.mu.edu/search/doi?pid=support@crossref.org&format=unixsd&doi=10.1093%2Ficesjms%2Ffsae184

So, this looks to be an issue with the way the metadata is being registered (metadata in) not with the API (metadata out).

Relatedly, all DOI metadata is provided to us by our publisher members. Crossref does not update, edit, or correct publisher-provided metadata directly.

I have reached out to our contacts at OUP - publisher of DOI 10.1093/icesjms/fsae184 - and asked them to investigate the way in which they are registering their contributors’ affiliation metadata with us. You may wish to contact the publisher directly as well, for the fastest possible response.

Warm regards,
Isaac

Hello @fmerceur ,

I have heard back from our metadata quality contact at OUP. They are investigating.

More as I have it,
